The club's annual Polar Bear Run to kick off the New Year is on January 1. We meet at 2pm at Stephen & Fran M.'s house (address is listed in the Volume 16, Issue 1 Miata Musings newsletter).
From there, once those with removable hard-tops are stored in the yard or garage, we'll take a 60-90min drive through the city, before returning for apres-event nimblies and coffee/tea.
The weather's (currently) forecast for about -5C and sun...a nice change from the frigid temps from the last few years...so c'mon out. Even if you don't have a Miata on the street, there's likely a few empty passenger seats...so don't be shy. (Perhaps the wrangling of empty seats is best done via a thread on the club's forum...just so you don't show up only to find all seats taken.)

Event Reminder - Candy Cane Lane Cruise - Dec 18
Don't forget that our Edmonton Food Bank donation is December 18 during the Candy Cane Lane Cruise.
We meet at the Second Cup located at 149 Street & 89 Avenue at 7pm and head out to CCL from there (a few blocks away), and likely do the Alberta Legislature grounds and perhaps a turn around Hawrelak Park for old-time's sake (no Bright Nights anymore).
Miatas will lead the group...but come out in whatever you like...it's for the Food Bank more than anything.
Wish your fellow club memebers some Christmas cheer too.

Dec/Jan "Miata Musings" newsletter in the mail
The Dec/Jan issue of the Miata Musings will be in the mail to all members (who didn't pick it up at last week's meeting), inclusive of renewal notices for all members whose membership expires at the end of December (not all do, as new members who've joined recently extend to the end of December 2010).
You'll find the renewal notice stapled to the newsletter, and within the envelope, a pre-stamped / addressed return envelope for you to use. Don't misplace it!

Nov 19 - Meeting Reminder
The club's last meeting for 2009 is Thursday, November 19, at 7pm in the 2nd floor boardroom of Park Mazda in Sherwood Park.
For those in attendance to pick up your Dec/Jan issue of the newsletter, it would be greatly appreciated if you could be prepared to handle your membership renewal in-person at the meeting, as this will save a lot of work on club administration. Annual dues remain $30.

Oct 17 - Event Reminder
Saturday, October 17 is the Fall "Burn Some Wood" Cookout at Hawrelak Park.
We'll try for a fire pit near to the river (click the above banner text for a link to Google Maps) and the fire will start at 2:30pm. Bring what you'd like to cook (and a means to do so...tin foil for the grate or a stick) and we'll see you there.
Our second-to-last Miata event for the year.
------
Well, we had 1 Miata, 3 MX-5s, 1 Jaaaaaag, 1 Land Rover, and 1 BMW...nine people for a very pleasant afternoon in the park, with sun no less! The last opportunity for newsletters to be delivered, so all others will be in the mail as of the 10am pickup on Monday, October 19.

Gary V. -- our Technical Director -- is hosting a suspension day on Saturday, September 26, at which time Stuart S.'s 1996 will be receiving new shocks & springs (Flyin' Miata stage 1.5 suspension kit).

Contact Gary via his e-mail address on the back page of your newsletters to get his address in St. Albert.

Event Reminder -- Fall Colours Run & Cookout (15th Anniversary Photo)
We’ll be running the Fall Colours Run in the old (normal) direction, which is to say Gateway Park to St. Albert, but with a mid-point stop at Pembina Provincial Park for a cookout / lunch stop.
As such, we’ll be getting going a little earlier than normal, with a meeting time of 11:00am on Saturday, September 12 at Gateway Park. Please don’t be late, as we’ll stage a group photo with all the cars in the grass (similar to the banner currently used on the club’s website –- it’s time for a 15th Anniversary photo to replace the old 10th Anniversary one). Even if you can’t make the drive, please come for the photo!
From there, we’ll likely get underway on the drive by 11:30am or so, and in 90min we’ll pass through Seba Beach but continue on the extra 15-20min to get to the park, whereat we’ll stop and make a fire, to cook whatever you bring for lunch.
Perhaps 90min later -– approximately 3:00pm -– we’ll head back on the road for the second half of the drive to St. Albert, which will take another 90min or so. Those who wish (hot weather dependant of course) can stop for ice cream at the Dairy Queen on St. Albert Trail, but we’ll be done with time to spare with respect to getting home for dinner.
So shine the car up (for the photo), bring a lunch (either one to cook or ready-made), have a full tank of gas (you won’t need it, but there’s no opportunity for any on the road), and plan for a nice day out with your fellow club members.

Sounds as if we can expect a few more memberships via the mail as a result of the event though...all people who saw it advertised in the Edmonton Journal.

September issue of Miata Musings will be out early
In order to help reinforce the event changes brought about subsequent to the printing of the August issue of the Miata Musings (autoslalom #5 reschedule, deletion of August BBQ, inclusion of the August Show 'n Shine) and to provide details on September's Fall Colours Run (now in combination with a BBQ), the September issue of the Miata Musings will be mailed out early this month.
Don't take that as an excuse not to attend the August 20 club meeting (where the newsletters are typically available for pick-up prior to being mailed) but life's moving too fast to let this wait another two weeks.

Presidential Prattle
The deadline for entry to the August 8 autoslalom (if you weren't already on the list from the first three autoslaloms of this year) is TODAY (Thursday)...the list will be submitted to the base tomorrow. The weather looks great (long-range forecasts can change) for the event. The BBQ lunch is confirmed for this event...so bring change or small bills. (BTW, Andrew appreciates payment for the entry fee by way of a cheque or exact change if you can...)
Hopefully you've all received (or will by the end of the week at the latest) the August newsletter. Sorry for the minor delay in mailing them between the meeting and Monday of this week...the Kicking Horse Rag Top Run took me out of contention for the weekend that followed the meeting and I didn't get around to it during last week.
Work on the September issue is nearing completion, so if you have a classified ad to update or something to go in, speak now, or hold your peace for a month.
The lastest rush of new members (four cars and seven people) is nice to see...it's typically the end of summer / early fall where we see the largest influx, but I think that this year it's started early.
Bob D., per last night's e-mail from Martin S. -- our Events Director -- is getting into the details for the organization of the club's first Show 'n Shine. He's looking for 25 cars (roughly 20% of the club)...so please plan on attending. The hope is that based on our support of this event this year, we can combine it with Air Fest next year, for even more exposure.
Have a great and safe August long-weekend.

Club Show 'n Shine
Bod D. & Randy S. are following up on their idea at the July club meeting to put together a show 'n shine event on Saturday, August 22 at the Aviation Museum just off the City Centre Airport. We'll likely be able to have a group picture with the Miatas surrounding the "Pacific Western" liveried Boeing 737 as well. More information to follow as it develops.

Kicking Horse Rag Top Run
For those heading out this weekend, the KHRTR meets up at Gateway Park at 7:30am (departure at 8am).
For anybody in Red Deer who's planning on making the drive (perhaps out to Takakkaw Falls and back along the David Thompson Highway), we should be in Rocky Mountain House at 10am for gas / rest-room break.

August issue of 'Miata Musings' newsletter out now
Those in attendance at last night's meeting received their copies and the massive eight-pager will be in the mail soon to the rest of the membership.
There is already an error in it, as the date for Autoslalom #5 has been changed due to scheduling conflict at C.F.B. Edmonton -- we don't know what. It is now October 4 as opposed to September 13.

Two more events in the bag...
What a wonderful weekend May 9-10 was...an excellent Spring Drive (despite the relocation of the start due to the mid-way taking up the St. Albert Centre parking lot -- a St. Albert member could have informed us) dodging all but one of the rain showers for an enjoyable 3hr drive, in addition to a very successful first autoslalom event of the season.
Ultimately we (only) had 12 cars on the Spring Drive, 11 starting from St. Albert and picking another up at the mid-point stop at Seba Beach.
Two new members tried autoslaloming out, joining the (depleted due to Mother's Day) ranks of the usual competitors. Some stellar driving was seen with a very engaging battle for top spot by four drivers.

April 30 deadline for May 10 autoslalom entry
A reminder that Thursday, April 30 is the deadline to get your entry information to Andrew S. in order to be able to attend (as a competitor, spectator, or event volunteer) the Sunday, May 10 autoslalom at C.F.B. Edmonton (per the base's security requirements).
Martin S. sent you all an e-mail, there was a short blurb in the May issue of the Miata Musings newsleeter, and there is also a thread on the club's forum -- with link to the EZCC's website, where you can find details on the event. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Miata Club Canada / WRMC forum status FIXED!
Seems that all who recently undertook the latest 8-part update from Microsoft fell victim to a glitch that the Yuku community of forums, inclusive of the Miata Club Canada, were no longer accessible.
As of Saturday, April 18, this seems to be rectified, as connection has been re-established.

Miata Club Canada / WRMC forum status
Seems that Yuku has been a little up and down today...being down for the morning, up by noon, but down again this evening.
I've not received anything from them via e-mail re: status, so assume it's something minor and hope it'll be resolved soon.

Meeting Reminder
The January club meeting is Thursday, January 15 (seemingly a week early, but it's still the 3rd Thursday) at 7:00pm in the 2nd floor boardroom of Park Mazda in Sherwood Park.
The Volume 15, Issue 2 "Miata Musings" newsletter, which would normally be available for pickup at this meeting, was of course mailed out prior to Christmas...so no newsletter (the Issue 3 copy will be available in February...I need a month off!).
Come out, wish everybody a Happy New Year (two weeks late is the maximum allowable in sensible society, it would seem), tell about your Christmas (any Miata-related goodies under the tree), and lets start to plan out 2009's event calendar.
Renewals can of course be handled in person for those that still haven't mailed in the pre-stamped envelope supplied with the Volume 14, Issue 11 newsletter.
See you tonight!
