Event cancellation -- Jasper Jaunt

Our combined event with Calgary's Canadian Rockies Miata Club, scheduled for Saturday, June 18 (the longest daylight Saturday) will be severely impacted by weather to the point of being called off.

I have held off a little in announcing the event as long as possible while watching the weather develop. Over the years, we've certainly driven the David Thompson Highway and Icefields Parkway, stopping at various locations in Banff and Jasper N.P.s, and come home via the Yellowhead Highway with sporadic drizzle and/or rain, but this weekend looks absolutely socked in with the wet stuff.

As good as the Miata is in the wet...the thought of a ~16hr day in nothing but rain and the impacts it has on enjoying the amenities (from our two-club congregation / socialization in Rocky Mountain House, viewing Abraham Lake, having lunch at Saskatchewan River Crossing, viewing the Sunwapta and Athabasca Falls, enjoying a fire near to Maligne Lake, and of course the drive) just doesn't appeal. And then there's the silly cost of fuel...

So Gordon Choate, President of the CRMC, and I have regrettably decided to call off the event and defer to 2023.

Apologies to those who were looking forward to it. I can certainly pass along the proposed route should you still desire to make the drive either this weekend or a later date, but let's wait out this current abnormal bump in fuel costs and do it next year.

We of course next have the Rivercity Motors car show in support of the Stollery Children's Hospital on June 25 and the Reynolds-Alberta Museum's Ultimate Car Show in support of the Food Bank on July 9. I hope that the skies only rain at night and during the week henceforth (which helps to clear up the pollen!).
